Inspiring Innovation
Coding has become an fundamental skill in this digital age. The usage of digital technologies are now prevalent in almost every sector. However, there is a shortage of talents with this skill across the whole world.
The ability to code does not only allow the individual to build and create new innovative solutions, but also develop critical cognitive skills such as creative thinking, problem solving and leadership.
This is why we at 42 Kuala Lumpur have designed a 9-day programme called Code4Teens: Discord Python Botcamp for teenagers aged 15 – 17 years old.
In this programme, selected students will be equipped with the tools to develop a self-learning mindset through our peer-to-peer learning environment and the knowledge to create their own Discord bot!
REGISTRATION LINK: https://code4teens.online/scholar-registration
TIMELINE:
1) 8th – 10th December 2021: Onboarding
2) 11th – 18th December 2021: Code4Teens Botcamp
3) 19th December 2021: Graduation Day
In our first Code4Teens Botcamp, students will get an introduction to Python programming language and Discord.py API.
Python is one of the most popular programming languages that is used to develop applications such as Instagram, Google, Spotify, Netflix and many more.
Discord is the most popular community engagement platform in the world and students will be able to create their own automated bot that is able to understand natural language commands. Think of this like creating your own Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa!
Furthermore, Code4Teens embraces 3 important verticals that we believe are important in education:
1) PEER-TO-PEER LEARNING
Every student in the Code4Teens programme will be working together with their peers and share knowledge with each other towards a common goal. This will be essential as they will begin their journey on developing cognitive skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management.
2) CREATIVE CODING
Learn how to code by applying creativity to solve problems and build solutions. At Code4Teens, students will develop a problem-solving mindset when faced with new challenges and to find innovative/creative ways to solve them.
3) LEARNING HOW TO LEARN
By removing the teacher element, students are placed in an environment where they must be independent on how to effectively find answers on their own. This is a critical component that is lacking by many skilled talents today. As they say, the Internet is filled with all information, but it requires skill to be able to find, understand and implement them.
Before the start of the programme, selected participants will be invited to an Introduction Session in which you will be briefed about the programme. You will also be able to ask any questions that you may have about the programme. Further information about the Introduction Session will be provided to you via email once you have been selected for the programme.
To know if you are selected, confirmation emails will be sent to the email address you have provided in the Registration Form. Therefore, kindly ensure that you provide an active email address, and that you check your inbox as well as all spam/junk/promotions folder frequently. Our email address is community@42kl.edu.my
Code4Teens is a 9-day programme with about 4 hours of daily commitment. The curriculum is taught completely online, utilising Discord as the main tool of communication. There are no teachers, but sessions and progress will be facilitated and monitored by 42 Kuala Lumpur cadets who designed this curriculum.
