2009

Penang’s Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng announces the setting up of the Penang Science Council, the state government’s initiative to advance science education and encourage innovation & creativity in science.

The Penang Science Cluster (PSC) is launched in 2012 and Keysight Technologies‘  leads the “Community Outreach” pillar.

Keysight Technologies’ Dato’ Gooi Soon Chai and the Penang Science Cluster (PSC) Dato’ Yoon Chon Leong shape the idea of the Penang Science Cafe, enabling the vision of “Science Fair 360”.

The first Penang International Science Fair (PISF) is held in 2011 to overwhelming response. YAB Lim Guan Eng moots the idea of having a “science fair”365-days a year.

 

In 2013,

the creation of the Penang Science Cafe, a social space for community involvement in science, is officially announced. Work intensifies on laying out the blueprint for this space.

The first satellite science cafe, the Penang Cafe@Krystal, is launched in 2014 at Krystal Point, Bayan Lepas. Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng announces that the pivotal center for all science cafes will be built at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee.

Keysight Technologies’  Dato’ Gooi Soon Chai reveals that this center, to be known as the Penang Science Cafe@Heritage, will embody the spirit of Penang…

2014,

Dato’ Seri Stephen Yeap, chairman of the board of directors of Wawasan Open University and trustee of Yeap Chor Ee Trusts, signs an agreement with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) for the lease of Wisma Yeap Chor Ee, paving the way for the transformation of the building.

The first CEO of Penang Science Cluster (PSC), Ooi Peng Ee, witnessed by Keysight Technologies’ Shidah Ahmad, signs an agreement with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) for the lease of the 13,000 sq ft ground floor of Wisma Yeap Chor Ee.

Restroration and renovation works begin at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee.
